The Time Cavern weaves a wonderful tale, which will unlock the imagination teenagers and adults alike. The storyline combines unlikely notions - children of families from the city, farm, and Amish country on an adventurous romp exploring time travel. Like the clever way that an animated movie or show can appeal to children, but with adult subtleties (ie. The Simpsons) The Time Cavern has something for everybody. In the early part of the book, as the author introduces us the characters, we learn about certain family values - Aaron, the boy from the city, Jake, the girl from school, and traditional Amish culture (chores, school, accountability and other responsibilities). Later, he invites the reader to experience the adventure and curiosity of these kids across scientific lines (astrology, chemical symbols, and exploration). There is a lot here.
If this book existed when my sons were young teenagers, we would have read The Time Cavern together. Parents and teachers can take this book in many directions. But here's my hope: This book is ripe for developing into a television series - Mr. Fonseca has simply scratched the surface. The novel leaves endless possibilities and more questions to be asked and solved. Disney Channel, are you listening? The Time Cavern was marvelously fun!

The Time Cavern is a concise, well-written, and endearing story. It's highly suitable for young adult readers: it was mature and clever, yet not overly complex. As an adult, I also enjoyed the book quite a bit -- it reminded me of the Encyclopedia Brown books I used to read when I was a kid, where the hero won the day through intellect and keen observation.
The story is one of exploration and friendship, as Aaron and Jake investigate the source of mysterious voices on the wind, and become entangled in the associated legend of an Amish boy who disappeared one hundred years ago. The story takes place in the quiet farmlands of Amish country, and Aaron learns about the Amish as he plays junior detective. The two friends' adventures are challenged by everything from the rural expansiveness of the country (how does a ten year old kid get all the way into town to look up a census report?) to various riddles involving chemistry, astronomy, mechanics, and history. While the plot might seem a bit obvious to an adult reader, there are definite twists to keep younger audiences enthralled. The characters are well defined and extremely likable, and reading the book invoked a feeling of tense exploration, just like what Aaron and Jake must have felt as they first entered the Time Cavern.
In a nutshell: wonderful, creative, and inspiring!

An additional note for time-travel enthusiasts (I'm one myself, having written my own time travel novel) -- the Time Cavern introduces us to what might just be the most original time machine concept ever - not to give anything away, but if you're a nut about time-travel, this is worth for that alone.

Todd A. Fonseca had written a dandy little time travel adventure. One hopes The Time Cavern is the foundation for many sequels.
Aaron Logan's family has moved to Amish country, and this move is not a smooth one for him. When he pitches a tent in the back yard of the house, to have some quiet time away from his siblings, he hears mysterious sounds an goes to investigate. The spooky thing was, the WIND whispered his name...
Aaron finds part of a diary from 100 years ago, and he becomes obsessed with finding areas mentioned in the notes. The girl that lives on the farm next to the Logans, Jake, becomes involved. Turns out there was an Amish boy who disappeared 100 years ago around that area, and the diary pages must be his!
In their adventure of unraveling the mystery of the lost boy, they find a most unique time machine. But it doesn't look like a time machine, and it darn well doesn't come with instructions. Or does it?
If you have ever visited Amish communities, you will understand the 'otherworldliness' of the areas. Simple homes, green shades on the windows, the horse driven carriages that co-mingle with modern time cars.
It would be easy for kids to get caught up in the mystery of a community that is so different from ours.
Mr. Fonseca's book had been suggested for the younger folks, and it certainly is kid friendly, teen friendly, but adults, PLEASE read this book - it is a pleasure and the principle of the time travel process is a fascinating one, that will entertain all.
I look forward to the next adventure of Aaron and Jake...and company.

Todd Fonseca's The Time Cavern is an enjoyable read for adults as well as for children. The ten-year-old main character, Aaron, is a good kid who has just a little trouble understanding why his parents make so many rules that prevent him from exploring his new environment the way he'd like to. The author has done a great job of reminding us just what it was like to be a kid trying to adjust to a new town and new friends.
When Aaron and his friend, a girl named Jake, set out to solve a 100 year old mystery, they work through a number of conflicts together. Eventually their adventure leads them on a scary trip back in time. They end up meeting and saving an Amish boy who was trapped out of his own time. The boy tells them the secrets of the time cavern and in a twist at the end, he finds a way to send Aaron and Jake a message from the past.
This was a fun book to read, and I thoroughly enjoyed the believable characters and the well-done descriptions of the setting.

Todd A. Fonseca's "The Time Cavern" is a fantastic read for children and adults alike. Todd has a knack for making the characters realistic and likeable, whether they be Aaron's parents or the main characters, 10 year old friends Aaron and Jake. I laughed many times while reading the book at the way Todd skillfully phrased certain things.
For the adult, the read takes you back to a time when the world is filled with adventure and mystery, begging to be discovered.
For the young reader, both boys and girls would appreciate the excitement of this book, certainly inspiring them to explore the wonders of our world beyond the television.
The Time Cavern is definitely an enjoyable page-turning read and could easily be turned into a series of books. It incorporates the various degrees of friendship and trust, and makes us able to appreciate what we learned in school...ie: history, the Amish culture, farming corn, constellations, and uncovering mysteries through the wonders of science.
I could go on but I don't want to spoil it! Enjoy!!!
